La Piazza was designed and constructed to emphasise the school's cultural links to the Italian community.
An unappealing zone between buildings has been
transformed with a soaring canopy structure offering bright and airy coverage for class and play activities, as well as formal events and assembly.
The environment has Italian-themed art, including a mural triptych of the Italian countryside, featuring scenes from the Alps in the north, through Tuscany, to the coastline at the very southern toe of the boot. Part of the mural features as the background of the website.
An 11 metre mosaic centre-piece of hand-cut tiles is also part of La Piazza's design. Pupils form Prep to Year 3 made self-portraits then, taking inspiration from the urban environment, researched and designed their own individual tiles for the mosaic.
Completed in 2008 this space embodies the cultural, creative and artistic ethos of our community. La Piazza is used widely for school assemblies, community celebrations, exhibitions, displays, performances and general social and learning experiences. This has become a visual arts and community hub.
